Purpose of Our Stay at Thee Kashatharn
We visited Thee Kashatharn during our 6 month Southeast Asia honeymoon. We were travelling through Thailand and our third stop along the way was Chiang Mai, after Bangkok and Sukhothai.
Chiang Mai easily became our favourite destination in Thailand and Thee Kashatharn was the most comfortable hotel.Â
We had stayed in both Old Town and outside of Old Town (at Thee Kashatharn). We much preferred being just outside of Old Town.
Staying at Thee Kashatharn, we were completely away from the noise and felt that we were in a peaceful village, however, had the ease and convenience of being in the bustle within minutes!
Our First Impressions of Thee Kashatharn Hotel
The first thing we noticed upon entering Thee Kashatharn was its stunning Lanna architecture and design. Traditional decor fills the lobby and corridors, immediately setting the tone for an authentic experience.
The hotel showcases local artistry by decorating its walls and hallways with handiwork from Chiang Mai artisans, beautifully celebrating the city’s unique cultural heritage.
The decor highlights the four elements of Chiang Mai: footprints, water, elephants and mountains.
Each element is thoughtfully represented through art mosaics, which are displayed throughout the property.
We found the hotel’s ambiance to be cozy and serene, with cool wood tones, earthy browns, and elegant Lanna decor creating an inviting and peaceful atmosphere.
One of the standout features is the glass elevator, which offers views of the hotel pool as you ascend. At the top, the elevator opens up to breathtaking views of Doi Suthep, blending a touch of modernity with the hotel’s old world charm.
Even if your room is on the first floor, be sure to take the elevator up to the top to soak in the views!
Getting Around & Nearby Attractions at Thee Kashatharn
Thee Kashatharn is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Old Town.
Alternatively, guests can take advantage of the complimentary bikes and locks provided by the hotel, making exploration even easier.
During our stay, we alternated between walking and using the bikes. For destinations farther from Old Town, such as Doi Suthep, we opted to hire a Grab car for convenience.
Some of the attractions I highly recommend visiting near Thee Kashatharn include:
- Saturday Night Market – Wua Lai Walking Street: 12 minutes walk
- Mae Kha Canal: 6 minutes walk
- Tha Phae Gate: 15 minutes walk
- Wat Sri Suphan: 19 minutes walk
Our Experience at Thee Kashatharn
We checked into Thee Kashatharn in the afternoon and were greeted by help with our luggage and delicious lychee juices.
Check in was simple and quick. After reviewing our passports, we were shown to our rooms.
Our Stay in the Grand Oriental Suite: Thee Kashatharn Rooms
We stayed in the Grand Oriental Suite, the most luxurious suite at Thee Kashatharn, and it truly lived up to its name.
The bed was hands down the most comfortable we’ve experienced in Asia so far – soft and luscious are the words that come to mind.
If you’ve been travelling in Southeast Asia for a while, you know that beds here can often feel as firm as a massage table, so this was a very welcome change!
The room’s Lanna-inspired design was stunning, featuring beautiful arched ceilings and a wraparound balcony with breathtaking views of Doi Suthep.
Inside, the suite offered a spacious seating area with a couch and comfortable stools. Additional amenities included a minibar, a safe, a coffee station with pods, a kettle with tea (Ceylon tea, our fav!), and complimentary water, all replenished daily.
The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, which was essential for us as travel bloggers.
As Canadians, we appreciated that Thailand’s outlets are compatible with ours, and we were thrilled to find them conveniently located on both sides of the bed – our preferred set up.
The bathroom was equally impressive, boasting a luxurious bathtub and premium toiletries, including shampoo and body soap from THESS.
Daily housekeeping ensured fresh towels and a restocked tea and coffee station.
Laundry Tip:
While there is no laundry service onsite, a convenient solution awaits across the street at the yellow building.
For just 40 THB per kilogram, the family provides excellent laundry service.
Bonus: it was the best smelling laundry we’ve had in SEA.
Dining at Thee Kashatharn
Breakfast is included and served every morning.
We tried the French toast, eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs during breakfast, and every dish was delicious!
If you’re feeling particularly hungry, I recommend the scrambled eggs – the portion is huge!
Breakfast is served a la carte, but there is a buffet with plenty of options to top up your meal, including a noodle station, juices, coffee, tea, cereals, yogurt, breads, muffins, and fresh fruit.
We made sure to try everything and left each morning feeling well-fed and ready for our adventures in Chiang Mai.
While there is not a restaurant onsite for dinner, we didn’t mind at all. Exploring the local dining scene was a treat!
One standout recommendation from the staff at the hotel was just a few minutes’ walk away at Pakorn’s Kitchen, renowned for its flavourful Massaman curry.
The Pool at Thee Kashatharn
We spent countless hours enjoying the pool at Thee Kashatharn. Its length was perfect for getting in some proper strokes – a feature I really appreciate as an ex-lifeguard, LOL.
The lounge chairs and beach umbrellas provided the perfect setup for relaxation, allowing us to unwind in the tranquil surroundings.
The hotel’s charming decor extended outdoors, with adorable elephant planters scattered around the pool area, adding a touch of whimsy to the peaceful ambiance.
The 5th Wall: Thee Kashatharn Bar
The 5th Wall, the onsite bar at Thee Kashatharn, was a chill spot to spend a couple of hours in the evening.
The cocktails were expertly crafted, with bartender San being a very friendly conversationalist to go along with our drinks!
The decor of Thee Kashatharn transitions from the hotel seamlessly into the bar. Creating a very calming and comfortable elegance.
The guests at the hotel get one free drink voucher each to try one of their personalized cocktails!
Exceptional Hospitality from the Staff at Thee Kashatharn
The staff at Thee Kashatharn were always friendly and eager to assist, offering valuable advice for exploring Chiang Mai.
They were especially helpful when we were planning our visit to Doi Suthep, ensuring we made the most of our day.
Their restaurant recommendations for dinner were spot on – we were never disappointed and it took us to our favourite Thailand meal at Pakorn’s Kitchen.
We enjoyed chatting with the staff during the day between excursions, sharing our adventures and exchanging stories.
The warm and welcoming vibes from everyone at Thee Kashatharn made us feel comfortable and truly at home.
Our Overall Impression of Thee Kashatharn
Overall, I highly recommend staying at Thee Kashatharn—it’s a place we’ll undoubtedly return to the next time we’re in Chiang Mai.
The staff make you feel right at home, the beds are unbelievably comfortable, and the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between cozy and sophisticated.
Thee Kashatharn also offers fantastic value for money. I’d describe it as affordable luxury and comfort, delivering an experience that feels indulgent without breaking the bank.
